And it's the last batch of poems for Escapril 2022!
It's been fun!
Format for the poems are Day #: Prompt - Poem Title
Day 21: dew - "Reflection"
A morning dew drop
fresh from the sprinklers
holds our big world
in a tiny reflection
Day 22: intimacy - "Us"
You and me
together somewhere
in a car listening to your favorite podcast
at the table enjoying a meal
in bed cuddling and watching a new episode
in the office writing and playing
sharing a moment and a memory
Day 23: blink and you'll miss it - "One Second"
Wait
Give me a second
to secretly capture this moment
when no one’s watching
all i need is a second
you wont notice it at all
Day 24: crystal - "Sparkle"
It’s part of me now. Sometimes I catch the sparkle of it out of the corner of my eye, or I’ll put it somewhere in the light, just to watch it shine. It’s only been part of my life for
3 months
3 weeks
and 114 days
and every time I look at it
I’m always thinking of him and counting down the days
10 months
3 weeks
and 326 days
Day 25: computer - "Creative Space"
The office of
a writer and a musician
is filled with
ideas
two computers
memories
laughter
yawns
click clack clicks of a keyboard
the strum of a guitar or ukulele
conversations
music
words and words
videos and how-to’s
sighs and shaking heads
and
the never ending support
Day 26: night out - "Escape"
Let’s just drop everything
avoid our responsibilities
call into work tomorrow
and leave tonight
We’ll escape into the night
and only have each other
Go on a grand adventure
that we both dreamed about
Day 27: the astronaut - "The Astronaut"
I still dream of being among the stars
floating around in outer space
exploring the vast universe far far from home
and gazing into the endless galaxies that wait
but then I remember how much I have left to discover
here on earth
full of oceans, rivers, and lakes
forests to trek through
and mountains to climb
so I’ll stay down below
and gaze up at the night sky
loving the worlds above and beyond
and the world I have here
Day 28: only an illusion - "Nightmares"
I hate the nights when I wake up, heart pounding inside my chest, because something was there in the dark, inside my dreams, moving closer and closer until I turned on the light and saw that it was just all in my head.
It all goes away when I know you’re there next to me
or just a phone call away
Day 29: inversion - "Upside Down"
uʍop ǝpᴉsdn
uoouɹǝʇɟɐ uɐ ƃuᴉpuǝds
sdǝʇs ƃᴉq ǝʞɐʇ puɐ
ɹoɹɹᴉɯ llɐɯs ɐ ʎɹɹɐɔ

punoɹƃʎɐld ǝɥʇ uo ɹǝqɯǝɯǝɹ
Day 29: inversion - "Upside Down" (Normal Text)
remember on the playground
or in your house
when you would wonder what the world was like
upside down?
you’d turn your head around
hang off the bed
carry a small mirror
and take big steps
spending an afternoon
upside down
Day 30: it's getting dark - "Sunset on the Road"
It’s getting dark
on the road
the sun is sinking below the mountains
below our horizon
leaving a splash of color
yellow, orange, and red
against the dark sky
And we've reached the end of Escapril. It's been fun! I can't wait to do it all over again next year. I'm glad I discovered this challenge, and I can't wait to find more exiting writing challenges.
Here are my favorites from this round of poems:
"Us" is about all the wonderful little moments I spend with my fiancé! It was fun writing this one after we spent a quiet afternoon being creative!
"One Second" is super fun because I take part One Second Everyday, a little video diary that only uses a one to two second video from your day. Sometimes I sneak out my phone and record and capture little moments.
"Upside Down". I'm sorry about the crazy text! But I thought about what it would be like to have the poem actually upside down, and remembered as a kid I would take a mirror and "walk" on the ceiling of my house.
So what's next for these poems? I think I'll workshop a few, work on some rewrites, and maybe send a few out into the world to be published. Maybe they'll find new homes in books!
As for next Wednesday, keep an eye out for some kind of writing! It may be another writing challenge, or just an average update post on some novels and stories I'm working on. Don't forget to check back on Saturday's for a new Camp Wilderocke post!
